Freelance Technology Journalist 2003 - Current
I have been a freelance tech writer for several years writing for publications like IGN.com, The Georgia Straight, The Kelowna Daily Courier and eVent! Magazine.
Pacific Cellular / Digital Communications June 1999 - Current
During my nine years in cellular sales I’ve worked at several of Rogers Wireless’ busiest stores in western Canada. During that time I have also acted as Senior Sales Representative, taking on a position that included employee- and resource-management duties to ensure the company met its monthly and annual sales quotas.
The Phoenix September 1999 – June 2005
At the Phoenix, the official student newspaper of the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus, I held down pretty much ever post from news editor to editor-in-chief. During this time I helped recruit, train and manage a team of volunteer and paid writers and editors as I ran the deadline driven newsroom. Apart from assigning stories I also copy-edited the content and oversaw the newspaper’s layout and production schedule.
Metroblogging Vancouver 2005 - Current
As city captain for the Vancouver entry in the world wide Metroblogging project, I have been heavily involved in both online community creation and maintenance, as well as recruiting Vancouver based writers and doing a great deal of writing web content myself.
Campus Plus Board of Directors August 2001 – June 2004
As a member of the board of directors for the world’s oldest and largest student owned and operated advertising agency, I helped guide the company through several key transitions including modernizing our media-delivery methods.
I am able to manage people working in a deadline driven environment, overseeing a project from conception to completion on time. I am very good at personnel management, acting both as a resource to aid others in the completion of their tasks and ensure that they have what is necessary to achieve that. I can co-ordinate various different groups ensuring that everyone on a project is working towards the same goal by moving in the same direction.
Very comfortable with both PC and Mac computers, I am familiar with graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and layout software such as QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign. I have been using Microsoft’s Office Suite of applications for years, and am familiar with blogging platforms such as MoveableType and WordPress.
